The BioTECHT division at TECHT works with its clients through a number of the following specialised services.

MIC Management Expert Advice & Independent Third-party Review

Expertise in the development of fit-for-purpose MIC management and monitoring solutions to address MIC risks in different assets and support timely, informed maintenance decisions.

Independent third-party review of MIC management strategy, plans, procedures and practices. Unbiased, independent performance check.

MIC Site Survey & Risk Assessment

Knowing your system and what conditions support microbial life is the first step in understanding the overall health of your asset, as well as the source of potential problems and the overall Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) risk. Our MIC site survey and assessment is an unbiased, independent, and robust assessment of MIC risk.

This service includes biotesting to reveal the microbial makeup of your assets via analysis of surface, solid samples, water samples, combining insights from traditional and molecular methods.

Equipment design features, microbiological data, mitigation treatments, historical data, and environmental and operational parameters are assessed to generate a system MIC risk categorisation and deliver holistic and practical management and monitoring plans.

The aim is to identify MIC threats and related operational practices, quantify the risk to the operation, advise best practices, develop tailored monitoring, and remedial options in a prioritized report with estimated costs and budgeting guidance.

Customised MIC Monitoring

At TECHT, we understand that all assets are different, and therefore, we seek to create tailored, cost-effective monitoring programs that deliver meaningful data and practical solutions.

Our services include:

  • Routine Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) monitoring including sample collection, testing, data analysis, interpretation and guidance on MIC management, optimisation and improvement.
  • Specific detection and monitoring of problematic microorganisms, which may include iron and manganese bacteria, methanogens, acid-producing bacteria, and sulfate-reducing bacteria.
  • Design and implementation of microbial monitoring systems for early detection of biofilm formation and Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC).
  • Corrosion coupon analysis (in accordance with AMPP SP0775-2013 and AMPP TM0212-2018).

Biofilm Analysis in MIC

Biofilms are recognised as a global issue impacting health, food, water, marine and industrial sectors. Biofilm formation is the critical step in Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC).

At TECHT we are specialists in biofilms. We offer the following services:

  • Customised biofilm tests for validation, verification, and optimization of chemical biocides, anti-microbial and antifouling products in various real-world scenarios.
  • Biofilm characterisation includes sample collection, preservation, high-resolution imaging, biochemical characterisation and species identification.

Failure Investigations Involving Biofouling, Biodeterioration and MIC

  • Expertise in the development of fit-for-purpose solutions to address Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) issues and support timely, informed maintenance decisions.
  • QA/QC independent third-party validation and verification of MIC management frameworks, procedures and practices. Unbiased, independent performance check.

Custom MIC Laboratory Simulations

  • Custom laboratory simulations based on specific industry requirements.
  • Investigation of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) and biodeterioration rates and mechanisms in the following substrata:
  1. Concrete/cement mortar lining
  2. Steels
  3. Coatings
  4. Deposits and scales

MIC Training & Courses

Education raises awareness. Trained operators are more likely to prevent and manage Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) risk effectively.

We offer tailored in-house, and hands-on training to asset owners to be able to better understand and manage Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC).

Trainees are introduced to fundamental aspects of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) on different materials and in different environments. Our training allows trainees to select the best monitoring and mitigation programs to protect their assets.

Most importantly, the programs are tailored to the specific needs of the asset owner with relevant case studies and practical examples to gain clarity and confidence in managing Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) threats.
